Minnesotans Petition For Prince Statue To Replace Christopher Columbus

A lot has happened since the election of Donald Trump. As of lately many petitions have circulated to bring down statues and monuments that honor confederates, politicians, and those of power who owned slaves of both Native American, as well as African Americans decent. The reasoning behind the petitions is the decisions these leaders made to rape, kidnap, own, and sell people is something that shouldn't be celebrated.

Minnesota has had a petiton recently come into circulation to replace a Christopher Columbus statue with a Prince statue. the Wintana Melekin’s petition to Governor Mark Dayton, and the Minnesota State Legislature reads:

“Here in Minnesota, communities are reigniting the demand to bring down state’s monument to Christopher Columbus, a man who murdered, raped, and enslaved Black and Native peoples in the Americas.”

Continued …

“We, the undersigned, do not believe that Columbus represents the values Minnesotans carry. Rather than glorify a man who wanted to extinguish Black and Native peoples, we should honor members of our community whose leadership we find inspirational.”

The petition has already reach over 3,000 signatures.
