The dreaded 140 characters is now a thing of the past!
Over the last few weeks Twitter has been running trial tests seeing if users prefer the longer character limit, after receiving positive feedback they've officially rolled out the new limit that allows double the characters. Allowing users to further express themselves.
Via Hot New Hip Hop:
"Historically, 9% of Tweets in English hit the character limit. This reflects the challenge of fitting a thought into a Tweet, often resulting in lots of time spent editing and even at times abandoning Tweets before sending," the official Twitter blog writes. "With the expanded character count, this problem was massively reduced – that number dropped to only 1% of Tweets running up against the limit. Since we saw Tweets hit the character limit less often, we believe people spent less time editing their Tweets in the composer. This shows that more space makes it easier for people to fit thoughts in a Tweet, so they could say what they want to say, and send Tweets faster than before"
Some people aren't happy with the new character limit, however most of them are using more than 140 characters while complaining.. see the irony there?
Others are ready for the next improvement.. an edit button!
Sweet now I can read 280 characters of people's bullshit. Not like an edit button would of made more sense or anything. Na let's give them more space to put up long ass rants about a whole lot of nothing. Thanks Twitter you listen to your user feedback I see. #SeeWhatIDidThereLOL

Thanks for the 280 characters Twitter but I refuse to use them until you give me an edit button

Kind of ironic seeing people complaining about 280 characters, yet using over 140 to explain why they hate it. #Twitter
