Judge Rules That Parents Can Use Dead Son’s Sperm To Make Grandchildren
A New York judge has ruled that two parents can use their deceased son’s sperm to produce a surrogate grandchild.
21-year-old Peter Zhu, was a cadet at West Point when he died in a tragic skiing accident earlier this year. Claiming their son had wanted to have children, his parents got permission from a judge to have Zhu’s sperm collected and frozen.
This week, the judge cleared the way for the parents to proceed, saying Peter’s ‘presumed intent’ was to start a family based on his previous statements. But some experts disagree with the decision, saying only a spouse should be given that kind of access.
