Hillsborough County Schools Cease All Athletic Activities After Tampa Teen Dies On Football Field

Such awful news… The Hillsborough County School District is temporarily ceasing all conditioning and athletic activities after a new student died during conditioning drills yesterday. The incoming freshman was working out with the team at Middleton High School and collapsed everyone was doing 30 to 40 minutes of conditioning drills.

During the drills they were doing weightlifting, wind sprints which included water breaks. The 14-year-old named Hezekiah Walters was taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Hillsborough County Schools have ceased all conditioning and athletic activities until the coaches review all safety procedures and complete a review to make sure every student is cleared to participate.
