If you’re still carrying a few extra pounds around the belly, don’t give up.

There’s still hope in shedding that stubborn weight. According to one personal trainer, just grab your running shoes and hit the road.

Steven McDaniels recommends newbies start off with brisk walking or light jogging, gradually getting to 30-60 minutes of more moderate intensity activity, aiming for five days a week.

If exercise hasn’t been your thing in the past, you may find some great early results. “Those new to fitness and running will burn calories more easily because the body isn’t used to the activity,” says McDaniels.

Keep in mind that you’d need to burn 3,500 calories in a week to drop a pound.
