NFL Receives Backlash Over Statement About George Floyd
Many businesses and organizations posted statements about the death of George Floyd.
One organization in particular was met with shock when they released their statement.
It was the NFL.
Posted on their league website and on Twitter, the statement said in part, …these tragedies inform the NFL’s commitment and our ongoing efforts. There remains an urgent need for action. We recognize the power of our platform in communities and as part of the fabric of American society. We embrace that responsibility and are committed to continuing the important work to address these systemic issues together with our players, clubs and partners.

Many took issue with the NFL’s statement because this was the very thing Colin Kaepernick and other players were taking a knee to bring attention to; police brutality in the U.S.
One person reminded the NFL of their stance against players who did not stand for the national anthem by posting a screen shot from an article titled, NFL Will Fine Teams If Player’s Don’t Stand for National Anthem.
Filmmaker and director Ava DuVernay responded to the NFL’s post by saying, beyond hollow and disingenuous.
