Lil Nas X, Kehlani & More Celebs Are Calling Out The “Blackout Tuesday” Instagram Campaign
Lil Nas X and Kehlani are calling out “Blackout Tuesday” and those that are using the Black Lives Matter hashtag in conjunction with the Instagram campaign.
Lil Nas X says that using the Black Lives Matter hashtag along with a solid black title mutes information regarding the Black Lives Matter movement. Using the hashtag also overtakes the imagery that is associated with Black Lives Matter, essentially erasing information and images that Nas X feels needs to be “spread as loud as possible.”
this is not helping us. bro who the hell thought of this?? ppl need to see what’s going on https://t.co/fN492qsxaa

i just really think this is the time to push as hard as ever. i don’t think the movement has ever been this powerful. we don’t need to slow it down by posting nothing. we need to spread info and be as loud as ever. https://t.co/9nvy3HodjD

Kehlani also took issue with Blackout Tuesday as the day isn’t that important to the music industry since new releases come out on Fridays. “The major release day is FRIDAYS. Tuesdays are not a big deal. No releases should come out at all for the week sh_t maybe for the month,” wrote Kehlani. “These companies need to pledge to give the Black artists who release ALL THE MONEY MADE FROM IT. f_k it.”
