Miami Street To Be Named After Trayvon Martin
The street in front of Trayvon Martin’s Miami high school will be named in his honor.
According to CNN, A portion of NE 16th Avenue has officially been approved to be renamed Trayvon Martin Avenue.
In the government memorandum to rename the street, Martin family attorney Benjamin Crump said Martin’s death “raised America’s consciousness and pierced its conscience.”
The street’s renaming is expected to take effect this coming week.
Martin was shot and killed in 2012 while visiting his father, after George Zimmeran called 9-1-1 reporting “a suspicious person” in the Sanford neighborhood. Zimmerman acknowledged shooting Martin and claimed he was acting in self defense.
