In a press conference yesterday Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said that crews are working 24/7 to prevent the collapse of a large wastewater pond in the Tampa Bay area. The entire area had to be evacuated to avoid a “catastrophic flood” where it has the potential to gush out 340 million gallons of water within minutes.

“What we are looking at now is trying to prevent and respond to, if need be, a real catastrophic flood situation.” DeSantis said at a press conference.

Manatee County Sheriff’s officials evacuated 345 inmates from a local jail which is only 1 mile away from the 77-acre pond. That area could currently be covered with 1 foot – 5 feet of water.
