K9 officers are used throughout the state of Florida, and yes, they do risk getting hurt. Now, they can more easily get the treatment they need.
Governor Ron Desantis signed into law a bill he referred to as 'overdue'. If a K9 officer is injured in the line of duty, the K9 can now be treated by EMTs and paramedics. K9s can also be transported using ambulances.
Senate Bill 388 was signed into defines the "act relating to injured police canines". The bill authorizes "licensed life support services to transport injured police canines under certain circumstances; authorizing a paramedic or an emergency medical technician to provide emergency medical care to injured police canines under certain circumstances". The circumstances referred to are that there's no other individual who needs the ambulance transport at the time.

I’m proud to sign this legislation today to ensure they quickly receive the care needed to recover when injured in the line of duty.”
