Britney Spears thought her housekeeper's accusation against her - resulting in a potential battery charge - would "go nowhere." But it's been handed over to prosecutors to handle, so she may have to deal with yet another legal headache.

Law enforcement sources told gossip website TMZ that Ventura County Sheriff's Department wrapped up its investigation into Spears' housekeeper's claim of battery from last week and forwarded its findings to the Ventura County District Attorney's Office today (August 27).

Law enforcement said they routinely send such cases over to the D.A. for review, except for cases they deem has no merit. The differing versions of the events that occurred in the Spears case, one being the housekeeper's account accusing Britney of striking her in the arm, while Britney's retelling was knocking the phone out of her hand. The Sheriff assigned to the case couldn't decide on whose version was true, so it was forwarded to be handled by the D.A.

As we earlier reported, this all began when Britney's housekeeper showed the singer photos of her dogs in distress, upsetting Britney because of photos taken inside her home without her consent. The housekeeper showed photos on her phone of one of the dogs having just thrown up, so the dog sitter took Britney’s dogs to the vet; the dog sitter became convinced they weren’t safe at Britney’s home.

Britney's housekeeper of four years is no longer working for the singer and the dogs were returned last week.

Police Captain Eric Buschow said the incident was classified as a "very minor misdemeanor battery" and that the staffer had "no injuries."
