California is now the very first state to require large retailers to have gender-neutral sections for many children’s products. Most of the products include toys and hygiene items that Gov. Gavin Newsom thinks reinforces gender stereotypes. He and the LGBT community say it could be potentially harmful to children overtime to see items labeled pink and blue.
Gov. Newsom signed the new law Saturday that mandates the stores display “a reasonable selection” of items “regardless of whether they have been traditionally marketed for either girls or for boys.”
