Florida Man Arrested for Stealing Gummies, Offers Cops $1.5 Million Bribe
According to Hometown Source, cops say 26-year-old Joseph Lee Geist tried to pocket a package of Gummi Bears at a convenience store recently.
Although the man got away with the theft when it happened, he decided to return to the store and was arrested. Here’s where it gets crazy.
The suspect told officers that he was Adam Richard Geist and produced ID that seemed to confirm his story. During the officers’ investigation, they learned that the man had signed up for a members’ reward program offered by the store just minutes before…and he signed up under the name of Joseph Lee Geist.
A further search of a mugshot database proved that the man was indeed Joseph. Police discovered that the man was wanted for felony battery in another Florida county.
Geist was arrested, and while being driven to jail, cops say the man attempted to bribe the officers, eventually raising the amount to $1.5 million dollars. The bribe would be paid if the police would arrest him under the name he had given them earlier, Adam Richard Geist.
That way, he would be set free shortly after arrest. Geist now faces up to 10 years in prison and $20,000 in fines.
He is also charged with giving false information to an officer and stealing the bag of Gummies.
