Talk about being caught red-handed.

A Deltona man was arrested on Wednesday after breaking in to at least two cars and leaving a trail of pizza evidence, according to Volusia County Sheriff's Office.

Apparently, 38-year-old Dewey Smith left a smear of marinara sauce after breaking into a car and stealing a wallet. Police say they discovered a pizza box a few houses down next to another vehicle that had been burglarized. Reports show that a 9mm handgun was stolen from the second vehicle.

Police spoke with a woman in the neighborhood who said that Smith had approached her and asked if she knew anyone who wanted to purchase a gun. The woman also said Smith asked if she could call a gift card balance number, but she told him no. Police say Smith left with a pizza box he took from the woman's garbage.

After more investigation into a few stolen credit cards from one of the vehicles, police say they eventually caught up with Smith.

Smith told the deputies, "you caught me red handed."

Smith is being charged with armed burglary of conveyance, burglary of conveyance, four counts of credit card fraud, firearm grand theft, possession of a firearm by a felon, and theft and dealing of stolen property, according to the sheriff's office.
