LOS GATOS, CA - JANUARY 22: A sign is posted in front of the Netflix headquarters on January 22, 2014 in Los Gatos, California. Netflix will report fourth quarter earnings today after the closing bell.

So you thought you could get away with it. Not so fast! Netflix is testing a new way to crackdown on password sharing. According to Variety, Netflix will see if giving primary account holders the opportunity to pay an extra fee to allow other users outside their household access to the account. The company claims that the sharing between households is “impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films for our members.”

Here are the details about the new test plan Netflix is implementing:

About Netflix - Paying to Share Netflix Outside Your Household

We've always made it easy for people who live together to share their Netflix account, with features like separate profiles and multiple streams in our Standard and Premium plans. While these have been hugely popular, they have also created some confusion about when and how Netflix can be shared.

OK, before you start trying to figure out how many of your friends and family are sharing your Netflix password, this “paying a bit more” plan is being tested in Chile, Costa Rica, and Peru. You can breathe a sigh of relief. Netflix plans to roll out this test in a few weeks. We will wait and see if it gets the desired results.
