Sesame Street Character Scandal, Black Mother Says Her Kids Were Ignored
A mother took to social media after she witnessed a Sesame Street Character ignore her daughters during a parade but interacted with white children instead.
It happened at Sesame Place Philadelphia after she said that one of the theme park’s employees who was dressed as Rosita, intentionally ignored her Black daughters.
In the video, you see her two daughters excited to watch the parade and meet some of the characters but when Rosita walked by, the girls reached for a hug or a high-five and they were ignored.
Rosita can be seen giving high-fives to several people but told the two girls “no” by waving in their direction. The mother said, “THIS DISGUSTING person blatantly told our kids NO then proceeded to hug the little white girl next to us! Then when I went to complain about it, they looking at me like I’m crazy.”
Sesame Street apologized for the issue and posted a statement explaining that the costumes can be difficult to see at lower levels.
