One Of Florida’s Biggest Party’s Is Back
Fantasy Fest is back!! It’s been a long two years for the small Key West community without their annual traditiont, but all that changes this year. The festival kicked off Friday and runs through Oct. 30.
Fantasy Fest is an annual 10-day party in Key West that features costumes, parade floats, street fairs, concerts, and more. The event usually draws around 100,000 visitors to the island each year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event was canceled in 2020 and 2021. Dozens of themed events are set for the festival, including a nighttime parade featuring floats and elaborately costumed marching groups on Oct. 29. Participants are encouraged to draw costume ideas from the festival theme, “Cult Classics & Cartoon Chaos,” portraying characters inspired by favorite cartoons and television or film productions with a cult following.
Fantasy Fest was started in 1979 by a group of local business owners who were looking for a way to bring more visitors to Key West during the slower summer months. The first festival was a success, drawing around 5,000 people to the island. Since then, Fantasy Fest has grown exponentially and has become one of the most popular annual events in Key West.
