Tampa Steak House Launches Investigation Into Website Buying And Selling Reservations
Last week, we wrote an article about the difficulty of booking restaurants in the Tampa area lately. After doing some research we discovered a website selling reservations to many local restaurants including the very famous Bern’s Steak House located at 1208 South Howard Avenue. Bern’s reached out to us and wants to make it clear that they have no affiliation with the website and do not condone selling any reservation to their restaurant.
Bern’s reservations are notoriously hard to get mainly because it’s one of the most sought after steakhouses in the country. They take reservations on a rolling 60 day availability which opens at 12:00a.m. for a spot. Previously, you could make reservations a few weeks out but now you have to book months ahead of time which led us to wonder why they booked up so quickly. There’s been a rumor of bots buying reservations at these restaurants and that’s when we discovered AppointmentTrader.com was selling reservations to Bern’s Steak House for upwards of $160 a night.
A press release from AppointmentTrader.com says, “Their website was built to make it easier for consumers to trade unused restaurant reservations, theme park tickets or government appointments and allow other consumers to get a reservation or appointment at the place and time they need it.”
Bern’s expressed their concern and wrote, “We take this matter very seriously. As such, added measures have been taken with our reservation software company, Open Table, that is actively investigating AppointmentTrader.com with both their fraud and legal teams to ensure that our reservation process is not misrepresented or compromised by any computer-generated agents / bots.”
This is great news for fans of Bern’s Steak House and all local restaurants in the Tampa Bay area. We’re grateful that Bern’s Steak House reached out to us about this problem and we are hopeful that this issue get fixed quickly.
