Introduced by his mentor Dr. Dre, the newest rapper to enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is the one and only Slim Shady. Eminem is the latest rapper to get the honor which was given to him Saturday night. Dr gave credit to Eminem for bring hip hop to middle America.

Dr. Dre said that he had no idea the Em was white, and when Jimmy Iovine told him he was completely mind blown. Eminem went on to become one of the best selling artists in hip hop history. And when Eminem took the stage to accept his award he had a lot to say.

The Detroit MC said “I’m not supposed to be here tonight. One, I’m a rapper; two, I almost died from an overdose; and three, I really had to fight my way through. I’m a high school drop-out with a hip-hop education.” His influence in the genre has been undeniable and continues to make waves every time he releases music.

Other artists who were honored with Hall of Fame honors include Dolly Parton, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eurythmics, Lionel Richie and Carly Simon. Judas Priest and Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis will also be honored with an award for musical excellence.
