A St. Petersburg woman, 38-year-old Ashlee Lauren Morgan was stopped before driving her Range Rover right into the path of runners at the Coffee Pot Turkey Trot Thanksgiving morning. She repeatedly ignored police stops where she was asked to stop her vehicle but instead drove past multiple officers, refusing commands to stop.
These police officers were uniformed, parked, with their emergency lights on when they saw Morgan driving 60 mph in her 2019 Range Rover Velar right by Snell Isle during the race. Her charges include reckless driving, resisting an officer without violence, two counts of fleeing and eluding police, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
Police said in a statement, “If it were not for the officers at the intersecting gaining the defendant’s attention, and forcing her to stop, she would have ignored all traffic safety obstacles strategically placed at the intersection, and barreled through the intersection causing mass casualty to race participants.”
According to officers, 38-year-old Ashlee Lauren Morgan sped toward the secure racecourse, where 3,000 runners were participating in a 5K, around 8 a.m.https://t.co/gCvKZMK5RP— News 6 WKMG (@news6wkmg) November 26, 2022
