The Nuthouse

Weekdays 3PM - 7PM

Not a fan of parades? Here are 5 other places where you can escape the Gasparilla madness. I’ll be honest, the whole pirate life isn’t really my thing. I’ve been to Gasparilla once or twice and unless I’m with a Krewe throwing beads, I don’t care much for the parade. Creative Loafing has a really good list of places in Tampa where you can get away from the invasion, but this list avoids any chance of parade crowds in Pinellas.

Most of these places will be in the St. Pete area, but may spread around to Clearwater, Safety Harbor or Dunedin. Hopefully these spots will be a little less crowded with a lot of people going to Gasparilla. Either way, at least you won’t have to deal with major road closures or detours in Pinellas on January 28.

Here are 5 places in Pinellas where you can escape Gasparilla:

1. Saigon Blonde – St Pete

This tiki bar has all the vibes that will make you forget about pirates. The only bummer is they don’t have any drink specials on Saturdays.

2. Gigglewaters – Safety Harbor

Gigglewaters is a cool speakeasy located in Safety Harbor. They have weekly screenings of different movies in their “social room.” They’ll be screening Howard the Duck.

3. Rusty Lyon – Dunedin

This place has 4 main B’s on Saturday and Sunday. Bourbon, beer, burgers, and Brunch. On Saturday they have $1 mimosas and $3 Bloody Mary’s. Brunch sounds like a good way to avoid all the parade craziness in Tampa.

4. The St. Pete Pier

I haven’t seen the St. Pete pier since all of its renovations. So maybe I’ll avoid all the Tampa madness by seeing what the pier has to offer! I heard there’s a new restaurant that just opened up.

5. Datz – St. Pete

I know Datz is known for their crazy brunch menu. But I don’t want to be anywhere near the Tampa location on the 28th. So instead, I’ll hit up the St. Pete location.
