Jay-Z Settle Lawsuit With Photographer
Jay-Z just settled a lawsuit with a photographer over the use of a photo from his debut album “Reasonable Doubt”. The lawsuit which was filed in 2019, alleged that Jay-Z and his record label, Roc-A-Fella Records used a picture taken without permission or compensation. Photographer Jonathan Mannion shot the cover photo for Jay’s iconic 1996 album “Reasonable Doubt”.
The case which was scheduled to go to trail in March has now reached a resolution. Details of the settlement have not been made public. But according to documents, “parties have engaged in settlement discussions and agreed in principle on the terms of the settlement, which includes a stipulated dismissal of this action, subject to execution of a long-form settlement agreement.”
In the initial filing Jay-Z fired back at the photographer pointing out that Mannion had photos of him all over his website, images Jay-Z claims he did not approve for the photographer to use, and said Mannion demanded millions of dollars to take them down. Jay hired Mannion to not only take photos for his debut album, but also ended up working with many of the other artists on Roc-A-Fella Records and claims that he was “paid handsomely”.
This is just one of multiple lawsuits that Jay-Z is involved in at the moment. He is suing Bacardi alchol brands for 9 figures over a contract regarding his liquor D’usse congac. READ MORE
