My Favorite St. Pete Breakfast Restaurant Has Closed Down
Munch’s Restaurant and Sundries was my favorite St. Pete breakfast restaurant. Most Saturdays In 2022 I would go there and get grits, turkey bacon and a biscuit. It was some of the best down south cooking I had tasted since living in Florida. I have been super busy this year and have not been able to stop by. Finally I was able to last weekend, and realized it was closed.
I was very upset, but just thought maybe they were closed for maintenance . Unfortunately when I called the number, It said Munch’s was permanently closed. After doing research, I found out they closed back in December of 2023. The 30th was their last day. If I would have known this, I would have went to say goodbye. This restaurant had the best staff and cozy atmosphere.
Why did they close? Larry Munch who is the owner wanted to honor his mothers wishes and retire. I totally understand, he inherited the restaurant from his mother after she passed away. He has been putting in years of hard work and his mothers dream was for him to not continue working the restaurant at the age of 80.
Well, the plaza that was home to Munch’s was sold in a $1.6 million deal. As of now, there is no word on what the new owners plan on doing with the property. My hope is that they bring the restaurant back! Tampa Bay Business Journal wrote an article on Munch’s and I found out some great news. Someone in the comments said that you can now see the Munch’s staff at another restaurant, “The Big Catch at Salt Creek” which is now open for breakfast!
