Teyana Taylor Cast As Dionne Warwick In Upcoming Biopic

Teyana Taylor has been cast to play the legendary Dionne Warwick in an upcoming biopic about the superstar's life. Taylor confirmed the news on an appearance on The Tamron Hall Show.

"We’re in the building process right now," Taylor explained. "I’ve always wanted to make sure like, I could lock in with any person that I would be playing, you know? How Angela and Tina [Turner] was, how Jamie Foxx and Ray Charles, you know what I’m saying? Like, to really get to know them and I miss when movies was like that, when you get to know them and tap in and just bond."

Taylor added that she and Warwick talk "almost every day." She explained how important it is for her to portray the soul singer in a respectful way.

"She’s had a wonderful career, you know, and I think right now it’s about making her feel as safe as possible so she can tell her story," Taylor shared. "A lot of these stories get misconstrued or extremely dramatized to an extent and that’s not where we want to go."

Warwick previously spoke about the possible casting of Taylor as her in 2020.

"This is a case for @netflix," Warwick wrote. "Please don’t ask who I would cast to play me as it would obviously be @TEYANATAYLOR."

Taylor quoted the tweet with praise emojis in response.

Taylor's film A Thousand and One just hit theaters on March 31 where she plays Inez who kidnaps her son Terry from the foster care system.
