Florida Residents Beware Of This Used Car Scam
Reports tell us that Bill Feskowetz from Valrico has become a victim of a used car scam. Feskowetz purchased his 2013 Cadillac back in 2021 and said it overheated shortly after. According to him, the power steering and suspension went out. Once he got his car fixed it started giving him more problems, so he decided to take it to another dealer.
The dealership that he took it to discovered the problem. According to the vehicles Carfax report, the Cadillac had more than 147,000 miles on it back in 2017. When he purchased the car for $16K back in 2021, they told him the car only had 88,141 miles.
As expected, Feskowetz filed a complaint with the DMV. ABC action news tried to get the name of the place where he purchased the car but the state of Florida says they can not cite it since it appears the dealer purchased the vehicle from an individual. Also the vehicle had multiple owners prior.
Consumer Attorney Josh Feygin tells us that federal law requires that a dealer know the true mileage of a vehicle before providing an odometer disclosure statement to the buyer. An attorney for the dealership that sold Feskowetz the car says they did nothing wrong. He told ABC Action News that one of the companies who serviced the car may have reported an inaccurate odometer reading.
According to Carfax, Florida ranks 4th in the nation when it comes to people tampering with the odometer. 85,000 of those vehicles are on the road. They are warning customers to never buy a car without checking the VIN. You can check the vehicles Vin number Here!
Sadly, Feskowetz is stuck with $4,000 in repair bills. Do you have any used car buying stories? Ive had my car since 2016 and its paid off! It’s in good condition and I plan on selling it soon.
