It seems like every week Florida finds itself on one of these lists. Last week we found out that we were one of the worst states to have a baby in. This week, we have something to celebrate. After analyzing 4 dozen metrics in 5 main categories, WalletHub has voted Florida one of the BEST states to live in.

Criteria

To understand how WalletHub got here, we have to understand the 5 categories each state was judged on. The first was affordability, which looked at the states economy, its growth and job opportunities. The second category looked at education and health. Next was quality of life, which examined average commute times, weather, traffic congestion, and restaurants and bars per capita. Last but not least was safety, which analyzed everything from violent crime to traffic-tied fatalities.

Best States

According to WalletHub, the best state to live in is Massachusetts. Ranking in the top 10 for safety and quality of life were huge factors, but what made them the number 1 state was their education & health. Rounding out the top 5 states is New Jersey, New Hampshire, New York and Wyoming. Coming in at 6, yours truly FLORIDA! Safety, economy, education and health had the sunshine state in the top 20, but quality of life is what solidified us in the top 10. Though we have some of the most expensive housing costs, it is reassuring to know we are amongst the best in virtually every other category.

Worst States

Some of the worst states to live in were Oklahoma, Mississippi, Louisiana and Alaska. Other than its economy, Alaska ranked at the bottom of every category. Even though they were ranked as the worst state when it came to quality if life, there was only 1 state that ranked worse than The Last Frontier. According to WalletHub, the absolute worst state to live in was New Mexico. Ranking in the bottom of every category hurt them, but safety was a huge factor in being ranked 50. New Mexico is considered THE most dangerous state to live in.
