Florida Residents Please Beware Of This Texting Scam
Florida resident’s please beware of this texting scam. Many people including myself have been receiving weird text messages. If you don’t recognize the sender, please do not click on any links. Some people are losing their social media accounts after clicking these random links that are being sent to their phone. There are also many text messages where the person is posing as law enforcement or government officials. Do not send them any money! Some residents in the St. Pete and Tampa Bay area are even being affected by these scams.
According to the Polk County Sheriff’s office, there is a texting scam going across the United States. There have already been several incidents in the Polk County area. Several people have reported receiving a text that advertises T-shirts for sale by the Polk County sheriffs office! The text provides a link where you can make the purchase, but DO NOT CLICK THE LINK!
The text is not coming from the Sheriffs office. The scam text also includes Lakeland and Auburndale Police departments as well. Sheriff Grady Judd released a statement saying “Always be cautious of text messages with links, even if it appears to be from someone you know. Call the sender and make sure they sent it to you.” This scam started last year, but some people are still receiving the text. Be careful!
I Hate Being Scammed
Ive been scammed a couple of times but never via text. It’s happened to me before on instagram. I clicked on a link and almost got Locked out of all of my social media accounts. In my line of work we need our social media accounts. I wish people would just work for their own money, and stop trying to take from other people.
