Yes, you read the headline right. Florida Man shuts down roadway while throwing meth and exposing his genitals. Crazy, right? Whats crazier is it happened in Lakeland. Lakeland is about an hour away from where I live in St. Petersburg. The Polk County sheriffs department tells us the man shut down the roadway for 10 hours!
What Happened?
Reports tell us that on Sunday around 4 in the morning, Tieshawn Edwards was found standing on the platform of a railroad. The railroad crossing was located in the area of South Combee Road and Highway 92 in Lakeland.
Apparently he climbed 30 feet to get on the platform. Deputies tried convincing Edwards to climb down but he refused. Four S.W.A.T members then had to be lifted in a bucket ladder to get Edwards down.
Edwards finally came down around 2 p.m., which was about 10 hours after he initially climbed up.While he was being arrested Edwards threw a plastic bag which contained meth in the roadway. He also was exposing his genitals in a vulgar manner.
Edwards caused 4 trains to be delayed and disrupted normal operations of the tracks and roadways. He was arrested and charged with interference with the railroad track, railroad signals, resisting arrest, possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, culpable negligence and exposure of sexual organs. He was also issued a citation for obstruction of public streets.
Mental Health Crisis?
Clearly he was on drugs, but is this also a matter of mental health? What would cause someone to do that? He was standing on the railroad track platform in nothing but his boxers.
