11-Year-Old Florida Boy Arrested After Calling 911
Did you read the headline and say, What? ” 11-year Florida boy arrested after calling 911.” Reports tell us that the young boy allegedly called 911 and reported a school shooting which caused law enforcement to respond and evacuate the building. This happened in Ocala, which is about 4 hours from where I live in St. Petersburg.
Why did he call 911?
According tot he Marion County sheriff’s office they received a call on Tuesday that there was active shooter at Horizon Academy in Ocala, Florida. When Police searched the school they found that there were no weapons, armed assailants or injured students/staff.
After investigating, police learned that the boy called 911 because he wanted to go home early. Crazy right? Especially because there are so many school shootings that actually do happen. Prayers to the victims of the shooting that happened over the weekend in Las Vegas at UNLV.
Marion County Sheriff Billy Woods released a statement saying “This student put fear into his fellow students, staff, and parents, For what? A prank? Because you wanted to go home? I will not tolerate my young citizens being fearful of going to school because you wanted to be a ‘jokester’ in hopes of going home.”
In audio of the 911 call released by the sheriff’s office, the boy tells the dispatcher the name of the school and say’s there is a shooter in building two. When the dispatcher tries to get more info he starts saying “Help me. There’s a shooter walking through the hallway.” The line then cuts off.
The sheriff’s office said it sent all available deputies to the school. When they arrived, the school resource officer had not heard anything about there being a shooter in the building. As a precaution, the school was placed on lockdown anyway.
What should be his punishment?
The boy has been arrested, but do you think he should serve time. I don’t know the answer to this but he does deserve a punishment. Many kids have died at the hands of school shooters. Feel free to email me your thoughts on this. [email protected]
