Elderly Woman Found In Home Covered In Feces With 35 Cats And A Dog
According to the Polk county Sheriffs they responded to a home on Pope Lane in unincorporated southwest Polk County for a well-being check. They had no idea what they were about to walk into. When they got inside, they instantly detected a strong odor of ammonia. They also found feces throughout the house.
As they continued inside the home they found 35 cats. Police then requested the PCSO Animal Cruelty Investigations Unit to respond. Law enforcement also found piles of trash and garbage throughout the home. Feces and roaches wee also in every room and many of the cats appeared to be underweight.
Who is to blame here?
Sharon Cochran! She was supposed to be caring for the 82-year-old woman and all of the animals. Cochran was taken into custody and charged with 36 counts of animal neglect. She was also charged with one count of neglect of an elderly person.
Sheriff Grady Judd released a statement saying: “This is the second case in a week where we have found a woman who, thinking she is helping, ended up hoarding animals, The victim is now in the care of other family members, and the animals are being examined by our Animal Control veterinary staff. It is our hope they will be rehabilitated and able to be adopted out to loving homes.”
