Severe Weather Warning: What To Expect In Tampa Bay
Hurricane season is over but the Tampa Bay area may experience some hurricane-like conditions on Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday morning. Local weather gurus have warned us about a severe storm that may impact our area with floods and extreme winds.
There’s no reason to panic but it is good to know! Some Tampa Bay counties are under a coastal flood watch tomorrow starting around 1pm. The forecast shows that the Big Bend region is going to be more impacted than we are in Tampa Bay, similar to Hurricane Idalia. Weather experts are warning us about a potential coastal flood thanks to the high tides surging in after the storm. There may also be a minimal chance of tornados in the area, along with heavy winds and possibly hail. So make sure you bring in your plants, loose patio furniture, and any debris! If you live in a high-flood zone, you may want to set out some sandbags around your property. Click here to find available sandbag locations.
Closures and Cancellations
So far, Pinellas and Hillsborough County schools are still expected to be open for normal hours. All Pasco County schools will be closed on Tuesday and plans to reopen on Wednesday. Hernando and Citrus County schools will be having an early dismissal. Check with your child’s school for more info.
Storm Timeline & Effects
It may be a rainy morning on Tuesday, but we won’t see any big storms until the early afternoon, around 1pm. The heavy showers are expected to last until Wednesday morning and that day will be a little drier. We hope you’re loving the colder weather because thanks to this storm it’s here to stay. Weather experts expect another cold front starting on Friday. Thankfully, this one is not expected to last as long as this past cold front.
