Latto's upcoming single is "Back Outside" with fellow Atlanta rapper Anyica. The Grammy-nominated emcee shared some of the behind-the-scenes of the music video, where she seemingly came for Nicki Minaj.
"I’m turnt / Got auntie mad, she burnt," Latto raps in the music video as she and Anyica are sitting down on some steps surrounded by their friends.
Fans also thought that Nicki dissed Latto on her new album Pink Friday 2.
"Picture you endin’ up under the seat, where the dread at?/ Picture not listenin’ when I said you would dread that/ I mean locs, ho, you-you’s a chop ho/ I’m number one, y’all go argue over top four/ Clean, sweep, you gettin’ mopped, ho," Nicki raps on "Fallin 4 U."
Nicki uses the phrase "locs, ho" which sounds like "Latto" to get her point across about how she feels about the Atlanta rapper.
However, Nicki clarified that she was not aiming for Latto with that line and was simply referring to Halle Bailey's live-action depiction of Disney's The Little Mermaid.
"The dreadlock under the sea’ was … The Little Mermaid, right? So relax,” Minaj said in a livestream per Us Weekly.
How Did Latto & Nicki Minaj's Beef Start?
Nicki Minaj and Latto's Twitter beef exploded on the timeline back in 2022 after the Queens rapper accused the "Big Energy" rapper of not defending her after "Super Freaky Girl" was ineligible for the rap category at the Grammys. "If SFG (Super Freaky Girl) has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll," Nicki tweeted at the time.
Latto had asked Nicki not to bring her name up. That's when the Queens rapper clapped back, "This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. But today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the black woman she called her biggest inspiration."
"Karen" is a term that was coined for white women who are seen acting entitled, and/or often racist. Latto, who is biracial, would not fit the bill. That's why many Twitter users were confused when Nicki called the Atlanta native a "Karen" in their Twitter feud.
Latto is really good at giving her fans a little glimpse of her world. One way that the Atlanta native interacts with her fans is through TikTok, where artists show get-ready with me videos (also known as the acronym GRWM), fun moments behind the stage, and normal activities they do in their everyday lives. Latto specifically loves to show fans food reviews, her "soul food Sunday" videos, and moments when she hangs out with her sister.
On the music side, Latto has had a very successful year. At the top of 2023, Latto was nominated for two Grammy Awards. The 777 rapper was nominated for Best Melodic Rap Performance for "Big Energy (Live)" and Best New Artist. The rapper also won Best Female Hip-Hop Artist at the 2023 BET Awards.
The rapper has released two lead single songs this year so far. She released "Lottery" featuring Lu Kala in February. In April, Latto dropped "Energy," a remix of her Grammy-nominated "Big Energy" with Digga D. She followed it up with her Song of the Summer contender "Put It On Da Floor." Cardi B joined the Atlanta native for the remix titled "Put It On Da Floor Again."
Latto released her second studio album 777 last year, which featured Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, 21 Savage, Lil Durk, Nardo Wick, and Mariah Carey.
While the 777 rapper seems like an open book as she shows a lot of her life online, she is known to keep her relationship out of the spotlight and has yet to reveal who she is dating. She spoke to EXTRA in March on why she is sticking with that decision. "You got to because everything else is, like, so exposed to the world. If it's real, cherish it, keep it close to you," she explained.
We've compiled five of her funniest TikToks below:
Latto Hilariously Remix's Sexxy Red's "Pound Town"
Latto really is here for the laughs. While the rapper was getting ready she hilariously remixed the famous line in Sexxy Red's "Pound Town." Instead of using the song's original lyrics, "...and my booty hole brown," Latto responds "booty hole pale."
Latto Plays With Mood-Telling Filter
Latto does not mind having fun engaging with the filters on TikTok. In the specific TikTok, she uses a filter that shows what the user's "but" basically a bad trait then a good one. Latto receives "smart but dumb in love" where she hilariously responds "sho is."
Latto's Scary But Funny Halloween
Latto loves Halloween and is always wearing multiple costumes. In this video, Latto dressed up as Violet Beauregarde from the film Charlie and The Chocolate Factory . The rapper is seen reciting lyrics to rising rapper Lola Brooke's "Don't Play Wit It" when Latto changes her camera angle to slightly show a person dressed as The Joker in the corner. "My soul left my body when I saw the person in the background," one of the top comments read. "What is that in the back [laughing crying emoji]," another person responded.
Latto Can't Decide Her Favorite Food
Latto is always making content surrounding her love of food. In this TikTok, she is ironically eating while she chooses a food bracket to see what food is her favorite. She does not complete the video because she can't decide between two of her favorites.
Latto Dances To Her Feature On "Budget"
Latto loves to act out her lyrics. This time she acted out her lyrics to her feature on Megan Thee Stallion's "Budget." The collab was the first time the rappers worked together.
