Yasiin Bey Offers Apology To Drake
Yasiin Bey has apologized to Drake following his comments about his music. Earlier this month, Bey (formerly known as Mos Def) gave his opinion on the Toronto rapper’s music, calling it “pop.”
“Drake is pop to me,” he told Recho Omondi, the host of The Cutting Room Floor, on an episode that was released on Wednesday (Jan. 10). “In the sense like, if I was in Target in Houston and I heard a Drake song, it feels like a lot of his music is compatible with shopping. Or shopping with an edge, in certain instances.”
He did, however, not 100% bash Drake, saying that the Toronto rapper’s music is “likable.”

Yasiin Bey Apologizes To Drake
Now, in a video posted to Instagram, Bey apologized to Drake and offered him some advice on how he can use his talents.
“Drake, if you’d like to speak to me directly, you can at any point,” Bey began. “I reached out to [Dave] Chappelle, actually reached out to you. I DM’d you. You are a very talented MC, but for me, I require more of myself and others than just talent or charm or charisma — particularly in times of urgent crisis. And what I would like to see in terms of creators or creative people in the world, as it relates to our culture, is for people to connect with us beyond the jukebox or the dance floor.”
“A fair-weather friend can hardly be called a friend at all. The people who party with you — that’s cool. But will they show up for you when you’re at the triage?” Bey ended the apology.

At this time, Drake has not responded to Bey’s apology.
Drake Responds To Yasiin Bey’s Original Diss
After Bey called Drake’s music “pop,” the For All The Dogs rapper responded by writing, “What umi say again? Lemme shine my light king don’t change up now,” Drake wrote, referencing Bey’s song “Umi Says.”
In another incident where Bey was brought up about his alleged wedding to a woman he had just met, Drake saw the Instagram post of the interview, commenting: “Bohemian Bucket.” In Toronto, “bucket” is slang for “crackhead.”
