Why does it feel like this keeps happening in Florida? According to News-Journal online, another plane has crashed early this morning. Sadly the aircraft went down in the woods, near DeLand. DeLand is about 3 hours from where I live in St. Petersburg. This is the 3rd plane crash in Florida this month.

A Plane Crash This Morning Near DeLand

According to the Volusia county sheriffs department, around 1:49 this morning, a Cessna 172 lost power and crashed in the woods off Marsh Road in Lake George State Forest. Lake George State Forest is North West of DeLand.  Thankfully the pilot was able to walk away from the crash with minor injuries. Police tell us that he was the only one on the plane. There were 2 other plane crashes in Florida this month, but sadly people died.

A Plane Crashed On I-75

On February 9th, a Bombardier Challenger crashed on I-75. The plane landed on alligator alley. The plane hit an SUV and a truck. Even though the people in the vehicles survived, the pilot and co-pilot on the plane died. According to the Collier County Sheriff's office, the victims were Edward Daniel Murphy and Ian Fredrick Hoffman. Both residents of Florida.

Plane Crashes Into Mobile Home

Another plane crashed this month and it happened on February 1st in Clearwater. A plane crashed into a mobile home and took the lives of 3 people. Reports tell us the pilot reported that the engine had failed and was three miles from the nearest runway.

Sadly, he did not make it. The Clearwater Fire Chief tells us that the plane was found in one of the homes. 4 mobile homes caught on fire in the Bayside Waters mobile home park after the crash. The pilot was the only person on board of the aircraft. The pilot and two people who were on the ground were killed.

These are the Leading Causes of Death in Florida

To me, death has never been taboo. It’s something a lot of us think about but never speak on. Death is a topic some people prefer not to discuss, but we cannot escape it. Nobody has ever managed to escape it.

People die every single day, which isn’t a fun thing to talk about. That’s why we have to live every day as if it were our last. Oh, and we have heard all the jokes about how Florida is "God's Waiting Room", too. According to the CDC, the average age of death in Florida is 79 years old as of 2019.

It may not be pleasant, but it is a part of life. I think you will enjoy this list if you are a morbid person, just like me. All 2020 data are final. 2020 birth data come from the National Vital Statistics System (NVSS) via CDC WONDER; 2020 death data, including leading causes of death, firearm mortality, homicide, drug overdose mortality, and infant mortality, come from the NVSS via CDC WONDER and rankings and rates are based on 2020 age-adjusted death rates. The following is a list of Florida's leading causes of death. You can see more on deaths in Florida here. Check out the list and see what the number one cause of death in Florida is. Take care, my friends.
