Your Guide To Finding Your Missing Socks
It never fails. You swore you threw two socks in the dryer and only one of them came out. You’re not crazy. We all have wondered if the dryer is eating socks. I’m here to tell you THAT IT DID. If you always seem to have a problem finding one of your socks to complete the pair, this is your guide to finding your missing socks.
My Socks Story
I had an event to go to over the weekend and in true Rich fashion, I didn’t have my laundry done. I wanted to make sure that my clothes were fresh so a couple of hours before the event, I washed my outfit with my favorite pair of socks. In theory, the plan was sound. That was until I took the clothes out of the dryer. Everything was accounted for except for one of my socks. HOW?!
Somehow, a sock was lost somewhere between me putting the clothes in the washer and taking them out of the dryer. The craziest part is that the majority of people reading this can relate to this feeling. I almost gave up looking for them, but then I remembered a segment on Good Morning America where they informed people of the places to check. So I’m doing everyone a favor and letting everyone know the places you should check if you have this same problem every time you do laundry.
Spots To Check For Missing Socks
The first place you have to check is the washer. If you have a top-loading washer (Washer where you insert clothes from the top), check the pole in the middle of the washer. Socks may get stuck there or in the wash plate which is located in the central piece at the bottom of the tub. You can also check between the inner and outer tubs of the washing machine, but this area is difficult to reach.
If you have a front loader, the spots to check are a bit different than those of a top loader. You can check the washer filter and the drain pump, but before you check those spots make sure to look in the “clean-out area”. Not all washing machines have them, but the ones that do usually go unchecked. If those places fail, check the door’s rubber gasket.
Not in the washer? Time to check the dryer. Your socks can get caught in the lint trap if it is located in the front of the machine. One way to test this out is by pulling the lint trap out and attempting to insert it back in. If you are having difficulty, that may mean you have socks blocking the way.
If you can’t find the socks in the machines, then you only have a couple of places left you check. Double-check your clothes and linens. Static electricity can cause the socks to attach themselves to other articles in the dryer. You can also check the abyss between the washer and dryer if they are next to one another. If all else fails, check behind and under the washer and dryer. If that fails, then you need to start taking preventative measures. You can safety pin your socks together or use mesh washing bags so that your socks are always together.
