There Is a Sunken Boat Near St. Pete Pier And Residents Want It Removed
Fox News 13 interviewed a Michigan family who is currently visiting St. Petersburg. They tell news reporters that they have came down to Vinoy park to see the sinking ship everyday of their vacation. The kids of the family are wondering why it's still there. They want to know how it sank! According to the St. Petersburg Police department the boat has been their since February.
Why hasn't it been removed? Lieutenant Jason Levey tells us that police have to notify the owner and from there the owner has 21 days to remove the boat, or the city will do it. It becomes a first degree misdemeanor if they don't remove it.
Yes, it has been over 21 days and the boat was moved. The owner had it moved and anchored on the northside of St. Pete but then it sank. Police did not receive phone calls until March 5th. The city will now move it but its going to be expensive. They say it will cost several thousands of dollars. As of now the equipment that they need to remove the boat is out of service. They are not sure when it will be fixed.
