Is X-Men ’97 Saving The MCU?
Who would have thought that the state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be saved on the animation side?
Yes, currently the new animated series, X-Men ’97 has had fans raving week to week. We just can’t get enough of the series that operates like a cartoon soap opera. So much drama within the 1st 5 episodes, with love triangles, plot twist & turns, and of course action-packed fight scenes.
The characters we all love from the original classic 90’s cartoon are really having their shining moment, with each episode focusing on one specific X-Man. The show is balancing itself very nicely. The series picks up immediately after the events from it’s final episode back in 1996, hence the ’97 added to its name.
We are 5 episodes in & after each one, we are left with wanting more! X-Men ’97 is a Disney+ hit. In the latest episode of Geek Culture Congress on Speedy’s Mulitverse, Speedy, Tarik & I (Joey) discuss our take aways from episode 5.
In the episode, we saw wild turn of events, as some of the team X-Men members went to the mutant island of Genosha, and are unexpectedly met by the mutant killing machines, the sentinels. The episode highlighted Gambit, Rogue & Magneto and the interesting love triangle between the three & also the Cyclops & Jean-Grey’s tainted relationship, capped off with an epic fight between the mutants & sentinels.
