Movie Review: The Fall Guy Is Hilarious
There are a lot of perks that I enjoy working in radio. The one that I love the most though, is going to movie screenings. There’s just something about watching a movie before everyone else that makes you feel like you have power. However, with great power comes great responsibility. Sure there are some bad ones, but when there is a good movie, I feel as if I have a responsibility to tell others about it. At least that’s how I felt about the latest movie starring Ryan Gosling. Here’s my movie review of The Fall Guy.
The Fall Guy Story *No Spoilers*
The Fall Guy is a hilarious, yet romantic, action comedy that gives stuntmen the respect they deserve. Not only will Ryan Gosling have all the women hypnotized while watching the film, but he will also have everyone laughing in the process. He also gains some respect in the action-hero category in my book. While most movies suppress and make stuntmen the unsung heroes of films, The Fall Guy highlights them and gives them their flowers. Director, David Leitch, who was also a former stuntman, tells a great story about the highs and lows of being the “fall guys” of film and how depressing it can be. It also makes you appreciate stuntmen a bit more. For once, stuntmen aren’t just the star of the movie, but also the hero AND the guy that gets the girl.
Emily Blunt and her comedic performance deserve to be mentioned as well. We all know Blunt can be dramatic, but can she be funny? The answer is ABSOLUTELY! Well at least in this movie. She even gets her hands dirty with some fighting scenes! The chemistry between Gosling, Blunt, and even Aaron Taylor-Johnson as a villain makes this movie a must-watch comedy the entire family can watch and enjoy together.
Plot
Colt Seaver (Ryan Gosling) is a stuntman who has it all. A great job, a wonderful girlfriend (Emily Blunt), and not a care in the world. That was until one day he had a horrible accident at work. Seaver then loses it all. The thing that hurts the most, is the fact he lost his girl. After taking some time off, Seaver finally gets a chance to get it all back. The Fall Guy is a hysterically funny series of unfortunate events that will have you questioning what is harder to do. Life-threatening stunts or doing what needs to be done to show someone you love them?
My Score
I have to admit, when I first watched the trailer for this film, I thought the movie was going to be a corny romance film. However, after watching it I was pleasantly pleased to be proven wrong. I would give the film a 7.5 out of 10. The stunts are amazing and very entertaining, but Gosling and Blunt really did steal the show. The perfect balance of stunts and jokes that kept me engaged the entire time. I want to watch the movie again with my girlfriend just to show her how great it is. Probably the funniest new film I’ve watched this year.
