New Scam Using Your SunPass Against You
Scammer Alert! Just when you thought Florida couldn’t get any crazier or chaotic, we have something new to watch out for. On top of the infamous Florida Man headlines that come out every so often, ridiculous schemes, and all kinds of wild stories, Florida residents now must be on guard against scammers and a new scam using your SunPass against you.
According to Fox 13 News, a Florida driver name Ron Carlson said that he received a text message on Wednesday, saying that he had unpaid tolls with a link to a site that looks like the SunPass website. Instead of clicking on the link in the text message, he decided to call SunPass himself, since he’s familiar with cybersecurity. When he called SunPass he heard a recording saying that Florida’s Turnpike Enterprise is aware of a phishing scam involving text messages.
Attorney General Moody has stepped in and according to Fox News has been trying to take the scammers down. She’s since shutdown ten fraudulent sites just last month alone, but scammers just keep creating new sites.

Ron’s advice “Watch out for text messages. Don’t click on things. If it’s a company you’ve done business with before, try and access that company the way you normally have done in the past”. We agree with Ron, because as much as we love being wild, we can’t be reckless or clueless. It’s like when the IT department sends those fake phishing emails to see who needs more cybersecurity awareness training, don’t let them catch you off guard. Remember that SunPass will never ask you for payment or any action on your account via text. Any legitimate message from SunPass will come from the number 786-727.
