The Greatest Hot Dog Eaters Set To Square Off On Netflix
Hot diggity-dog! The hot dog eating contest of the century is on the way and we get to witness it live on Netflix. Two of the greatest hot dog eating contest GOAT’s are going head to head exclusively on the streaming platform. Joey Chestnut, the 16-time champion nicknamed Jaws, will face off against the man described as “The Godfather of competitive eating,” Takeru Kobayashi. Kobayashi is a 6-time champion of the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest and is credited for really bringing attention to the competition.
Kobayashi is returning to competitive eating after retiring due to health concerns, back in May. There was a whole Netflix documentary about why he was leaving, and how prepping for hot dog eating competitions for decades, ruined his appetite and at times would not eat at all. Kobayashi, in preparation for these competitions that weren’t just hot dogs, it was other foods too; he would spend months expanding his stomach.
Meanwhile, Joey Chestnut has gained a lot of popularity after winning yet another contest digesting hot dogs last year at Nathan’s competition. With that popularity for having the world’s greatest stomach comes with problems. Recently, Chestnut was banned from the 2024 Nathan’s competition because he signed an endorsement deal with a company that specializes in plant-based hot dogs.
These recent turns of events are not stopping the hot dog eating greats from doing what they do best and bringing it to a big platform like Netflix. Today, it was announced that the 15-year rivals are going to duke it out 1-on-1 Labor Day weekend for the ultimate hot dog eating contest. Monday, September 2nd they will square off live. Will you be tuning in? Who do you think will win?
