Woman Gets Impaled By An Umbrella While Tanning
I love the beach, but I do have some fears when I’m going to them. One fear would be getting burned. Another fear is coming in contact with a shark. I wouldn’t even know what to do. Now I have to add the fear of umbrellas. Why? Read this headline. A woman gets impaled by an umbrella while tanning.
The Story
According to Cocoa Beach Police Department, a woman and her family were sitting by the water in Cocoa Beach minding their own business. Well, the victim was tanning, the umbrella somehow dislodged from the sand and pierced the woman’s leg.
When the first responders arrived at the scene, they had to use bolt cutters to cut the canopy from the pole of the umbrella. It’s kind of hard trying to remove an umbrella from someone’s leg when the canopy keeps moving you around.
This isn’t the first time umbrellas have gone rogue either, and quite honestly I wasn’t aware there were these many accidents including umbrellas. According to Fox News, A South Carolina woman had a similar story back in 2023. Unfortunately, the umbrella impaled her chest and she did not make it.
Another incident in 2023 left two beachgoers injured in Clearwater Beach. However, it wasn’t just the umbrella responsible for the injuries. A giant waterspout formed on the water and beach umbrellas suddenly started flying around from the pressure of the vortex.
There was another umbrella incident back in 2019, and guess what state it happened in? Ding Ding! Correct, it was Florida. This incident involved a 13-year-old boy and fortunately, he lived.
According to Inside Edition, The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that beach umbrella-related incidents send roughly 3,000 people to the hospital every year.
So if you see me at the beach this summer looking around, just know I’m not looking out for people. I’m watching out for umbrellas. New fear unlocked.
