Florida Man Gets Arrested For Allegedly Shooting A Drone
Usually, when I’m posting about Florida stories, I choose a headline you can’t mistake for any other state. Today’s headline, however, sounds like something from the future. This Florida man gets arrested for shooting a drone.
The Story
A Walmart customer in Clermont Florida wasn’t very happy to receive their package this week, and they have Dennis Winn to blame for it. I mean honestly, I would be mad too if I found a bullet hole in my package. Just think about it. You’ve been waiting all week for that one package you’ve been looking forward to, and when it finally comes, you have to return it because some idiot decided to shoot at it.
According to WESH, The Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a complaint about a Walmart delivery drone that was shot on Wednesday. After an investigation into why there was a bullet hole in the payload, witnesses identified the 72-year-old Winn. Since the incident happened in the same area as Winn’s residence, it was not hard to figure out what happened.
After deputies interviewed Winn, he admitted to shooting the drone with his 9mm pistol. There is no reason as to why he shot the drone, but many watched the incident as it unfolded. According to reports, a two-man crew was promoting the service in a nearby community. To attract business and interest, the crew showed a couple of mock deliveries. However one went horribly wrong. While awaiting a drone delivery’s descent, the crew stood in front of a home located in a cul-de-sac. When the drone started to descend near Winn’s home, one of the reps said he heard a loud sound consistent with a gun. Winn was also seen pointing a gun in the direction of the drone.
Winn now faces charges for shooting an aircraft, criminal mischief damage over $1000, and discharging a firearm on public or residential property.
Drone deliveries are available on 1,000s of eligible Walmart items such as meals, groceries, household supplies & over-the-counter medicines. All you have to do is have a valid Walmart account. Walmart drones currently limit deliveries to about 10 pounds.
