“Thousands of HIV test results leaked after Florida health department hack.” This is very devastating for many because information like this should always be confidential. So many people that I know utilize the Florida health department services here in St. Petersburg. Im hoping that they did not fall victim to this hack.
Florida Health Department Hack Is One Of The Worst Data Breaches In History
Reports tell us that over 20,000 files with sensitive information was posted on the dark web. This information included Florida resident’s signed medical release forms, HIV test results, Covid-19 diagnoses and more. Sadly these records also include peoples full names, social security numbers and their address. Most of the records are dated 2023 and 2024.
If your information was released the Florida health departments says they will be notifying you. So who hacked their system? According to the Tampa Bay Times, it was the international hacker group RansomHub. Ransom hub apparently demanded the state pay them a substantial amount of money to prevent the release of the records and when the state didn’t pay, they released the information on the dark web last week.
What Is The Dark Web?
According to Kaspersky, the dark web is: The hidden collective of internet sites only accessible by a specialized web browser. It is used for keeping internet activity anonymous and private, which can be helpful in both legal and illegal applications. While some use it to evade government censorship, it has also been known to be utilized for highly illegal activity.
Over the last three years sensitive information on more than 10 million Florida residents have been exposed to hackers during breaches at state agencies. This is all according to the attorney generals office.
