Black Bear Spotted In North Port Neighborhood
According to reports, a black bear was spotted in a North Port neighborhood and it’s causing residents to stary alert. The North Port Police Department tells us that the bear was seen on Tidwell Street in the Estates area. If you live in this area officials are asking that you secure your garbage cans and other things to prevent the bear from coming near your home. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission are aware of the bear. If you see it please call the agencies hotline at 888-404-3922.
How Do You Scare Away Black Bears?
How do you we scare away black bears without harming them? You can scare them away by yelling at them or using any type of device that makes a lot of noise. There are also things you can do to prevent the bears from coming on your property.
- Never leave pet food outside your home.
- Protect gardens, compost and livestock with electric fencing
- Clean and store grills and smokers after you use them
- Secure or remove Wildlife and Bird feeders.
- Pick fruit from any trees, plants or off of the ground.
Earlier this month a black bear was also spotted roaming a neighborhood in Lakeland. Please be safe and stay vigilant!
