You Can Be Fined $100 A Day In Florida Because Of An Angry Neighbor?
A lot of us in have awful neighbors, so this headline is probably very triggering. Can You can be fined $100 a day in Florida because of an angry neighbor? The short answer is yes. If you have an angry neighbor who calls code enforcement on you over something petty, there could be a fine issued. I live in St. Petersburg and have great neighbors. I am fortunate to not have to go through this.
Lauderhill Woman Fined $100 Day From Code Enforcement
Loretta Bayliss of Lauderhill felt very helpless after she received a $100 a day fine for code violation. Why did she receive this fine? She added some stone and pavers to the area of her grass that had died. Even though the area was very small, it upset her neighbor. From there Bayliss received the $100 a day fine and a possible lien on her home.
Arlene Edwards who was her next door neighbor went to code enforcement to complain about the pavers and stone. Edwards did not like it and she told code enforcement that she was getting rocks in her tires every time she left out of her driveway. Edwards has a Mercedes and when she would take it to the dealership they always asked her why she had so many rocks. Edwards also complained to code enforcement about other things Bayliss did as well.
When Bayliss received the letter from code enforcement it said that her pavers and stones were to close to her next door neighbors property line and was creating water drainage issues. Bayliss complied with the letter and removed the pavers. Edwards was not satisfied and went back to code enforcement. After months of trying to please Edwards, Bayliss is now in compliance with the City of Lauderhill. The city has relieved her of the hefty fines that had been racked up. They also removed the possible lean that was going to be on her home.
Bayliss now has flower pots sitting on a bed of rocks in that area. This has been approved by a code enforcement officer. Sadly, her neighbor will probably still find something to complain about. Have you ever had a petty neighbor like this. Fee free to email me [email protected] .
