A Personal Tribute To Fatman Scoop
The news over the weekend of Fatman Scoop’s passing has left a deep impact on the music community and fans all over. I had the incredible honor of meeting him in Connecticut years back, a memory that I will always cherish forever. Fatman Scoop was more than just a legendary voice in hip-hop & dance music; he was a genuinely great guy with a heart as big as his great personality.
I first met Fatman Scoop at my old radio station in Hartford, Connecticut, where his energy and charisma was on full display from the moment he got on the air for an interview with the afternoon jock that I was producing for. Despite his larger-than-life personality, he was down-to-earth, approachable and just hilarious. We talked about music, life, and his trials and tribulations through the industry. His passion was contagious, and he gave a lot of great advice to me and some of the guys at my old station.
One of the highlights of that meeting was when Fatman Scoop kindly agreed to do a radio drop for me. His iconic voice and world-renowned delivery made it a standout moment that I still proudly feature in my mixes, including the one that played this morning (Sept. 3rd). His ability to connect with people, whether through his music or personal interactions, was truly incredible.
Today, as I paid tribute to Fatman Scoop on the 9am Classic Kick-Off for Orlando & The Freakshow, I am reminded of the time shared with him and the impact he had on so many. In today’s mix, you’ll hear some of his classic tracks and remixes that showcase his unmatched talent and infectious energy that inspired guys today like DJ Khaled & Lil Jon. This mix is not just a celebration of his music but a genuine honor to the man who made a large mark on the industry and on me personally.
Fatman Scoop’s legacy will continue to boom through the beats and party anthems he brought to life. His memory will forever be a part of my shows & DJ sets. Rest in peace, Fatman Scoop.
