Bern's Steak House Group plans to close Haven in Hyde Park and open a seafood restaurant in fall 2027. Located at 2208 W. Morrison Ave., Tampa, Haven will stay open through summer.

Executive Chef Chad Johnson, leading the new project, highlights the group's commitment to both tradition and innovation in hospitality. The new restaurant will focus on seafood, showcasing Chef Johnson's expertise and quality ingredients.

David Laxer shared his thoughts on the change with That's So Tampa. He encouraged diners to keep enjoying Haven while it remains open, noting its role as a local culinary refuge. Laxer emphasized the company's commitment to continuing to excel in the industry.

The opening of the yet-to-be-named restaurant comes at a strategic time. More information on this exciting concept will be shared later. Bern's team assured that staff will be supported through this transition.

Haven, more laid-back than Bern's, was developed from SideBern’s rebranding initiated by David Laxer in 1996 along with Bern’s Fine Wines & Spirits. This rebranding connects back to the Laxer family's early venture, Beer Haven, in 1956.

The Laxer journey began with a small juice bar in 1953, evolving over the years. They transformed Beer Haven into "Bern’s." As they grew, Bern's expanded its menu and seating capacity, from 40 to 350 seats.

The new seafood focus continues Bern Laxer’s legacy, emphasizing high-quality sourcing. His organic farm initiative from the 1970s aligns well with the new restaurant’s commitment to fresh ingredients.

As plans move forward, guests should enjoy their time at Haven and look forward to the Laxer family's next culinary chapter.
