Tampa will throw Liberty by the Bay, a free party at Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park on July 4 to celebrate America turning 250. The festivities kick off at 4 p.m. and wrap up around 9:30 p.m. along the downtown waterfront.

At 9 p.m., 250 drones will soar overhead in synchronized patterns — one drone stands for each year since independence. After the drone spectacle, fireworks will light up the Hillsborough River.

"This is a once-in-a-generation moment, and Tampa is ready to celebrate in a big way," said Mayor Jane Castor, according to Fox 13 News. "As we mark 250 years of American independence, we're bringing our community together on the waterfront for a celebration filled with pride."

Things get started at 4 p.m. Live bands will play, food trucks will roll in, vendors will set up shop, and a Kids Zone stretches along the Tampa Riverwalk. A beer garden opens for adults who want a cold drink while they watch the action unfold.

The Humane Society of Tampa Bay plans a Patriotic Pet Show at 5 p.m. Then at 6 p.m., the Friends of the Riverwalk will stage a water ski show right on the river.

Kids can join a Liberty Procession at 6:45 p.m., led by the Glazer Children's Museum. Wear patriotic costumes from any era in American history, or make one on the spot.

Fireworks won't just burst over Julian B. Lane Park. Armature Works and Jackson's Bistro on Harbour Island will launch their own displays. The Friends of the Riverwalk will also run a Patriotic Boat Parade on the water.

Parking at Julian B. Lane Park is scarce. Try the Bob Buckhorn River Center or downtown garages instead. The TECO Line Streetcar from Ybor City runs for free and drops riders near the festivities.
