Will Smith Confirms New Album ‘I Just Finished My Album’
Many of us have been speculating about it and now we have confirmation. Will Smith confirmed that a new album is on the way.
In an interview shared by the Instagram account Black Film Allies, Smith discusses details about his first project since 2005’s Lost and Found. In an interview with Fandango in May, Smith teased that he had been working on a project for about a year and a half.
“Over the past year and a half, I’ve been in the studio,” he told the interviewer. “I have a project that is the most personal and powerful music project I’ve ever done. The idea of the music is, ‘Dance in your darkest moments.’”
In an Instagram post on Tuesday (July 23) that previews his new collaboration with Russ, “Work Of Art,” Smith says, “I just finished my album.”
Some people believe that the album title will be Dance In Your Darkest Moments. Apparently, the phrase already has its own Instagram and website.
After appearing with J Balvin during his Coachella set in April, performing the “Men In Black” theme song, many people wondered if Smith was planning a return to music. Following a successful press tour for the fourth installment of Bad Boys, Smith then appeared at the BET Awards, hitting the stage to debut a new record called “You Can Make It,” furthering the speculation that a body of work may be on the way.
Recently, Will Smith reacted to Childish Gambino name-dropping him during his BET Awards speech. He posted a video on Instagram of himself backstage at the ceremony, watching Gambino’s impromptu monologue, where he could be seen laughing in agreement with the rapper’s critique of awards shows. While presenting the award for Album of the Year, Donald Glover criticized the Grammys and BET Awards by comparing his record at both events to that of Will Smith and Sam Smith.
“I have more Grammys than Will Smith, which makes no sense. But I have the same amount of BET Awards as Sam Smith,” he said, referencing the white British singer. “Does that make sense to you guys? Me and Sam Smith are neck and neck at the Black Entertainment Television [Awards].”
Gambino then joked “If I have to, like, do, I dunno, Baby Boy or something, just let me know. I’ll have Jonathan Majors put me in a headlock and shave my head. I’ll do it!”
