Here is a list of 7 suggestions for a mental health day. May is Mental Health Awareness Month so I thought I would share what I like to do when I just need a day to myself.

Look, burnout is a real thing and sometimes you just need a day to recharge and reset.

Millions of people in the U.S. are affected by mental illness each year. As a matter of fact, according to the National Alliance of Mental Illness reports  1 in 5 U.S adults experience metal illness.  That is why it is so important to check in on yourself regularly and take actions to seek treatment, medication or self care if you feel you may need help.

When taking a mental health day I try not to sleep in and I don’t binge hours of movies and shows on streaming service (that is what I call a Sunday).

Instead try something new, explore nature or pamper myself.

Here are my 7 suggestions to have a day all to yourself to recharge and reset to take on the world for another day.

  • Get Out In Nature

I love going for a long walk or a hike to calm my mind. Even better packing a yummy lunch and taking a long bike ride along Bayshore Boulevard onto Davis Islands and finding a quiet bench along the basin to have a picnic. It is so peaceful.

  • Turn Off Your Cell Phone

A social media detox is a must every couple of months. So just turn your phone off. Humans many many moons ago were fine without cell phones. You can do it for one day.

  • Spa Day

A spa day is always a winning idea. Make an appointment for a mani and pedi and maybe throw a massage in there, too! Or stay home and do your own DIY spa day. Draw a bath, put on a face mask and some soothing music.

  • Take A Yoga Class

Namaste. Get back to basics and try a yoga class. Breathing and stretching can do wonder for not only your mind, but your body, too.

  • Read A Book

Take a couple hours and snuggle somewhere cozy or grab a  spot on the beach and get lost in a really good book.

  • Craft

I am not sure I can express to you how much I love crafting. It can be something simple like painting, splatter painting, tie-dye, knitting, etc. One of my favorite things to do is grabbing some crayons and a coloring book and going to town for hours!

  • Organize Your Space

Yes, you may think to yourself that this does not sound relaxing at all. However, once you organize one small area of your house it will also help declutter your mind, too. Pick one room or closet, purge what you don’t need and then re-organize everything before putting it back. Need any tips on this, watch “Get Organized with The Home Edit” on Netflix. I am obsessed with Clea and Joanna and their systems.
